The first version of the Bible in English was actually printed in Cologne, Germany in 1526. Various other followed. Then in 1607 King James engaged a large number of scholars (54) to revise one of the earlier English editions of the Bible, namely, the Bishop’s Bible. After four years the scholars produced the universally well known ‘King James’ Bible’. The King James’ Bible is also called the ‘Authorized Version’. 54 Scholars during the period of four years, investigated every possibility of meaning of every word and sentence. Even so, interpretations of the words of the Bible have continued to differ. But no-one has been burned at the stake, as it happened to poor John Rogers in 1555, for having reprinted his ‘Thomas Matthew’ version of the Bible during the reign of Catholic Queen Mary I (nicknamed Bloody Mary).
